We launched with riptide charters on the morning of the 1st January 2010. We chartered the whole boat for the day to make it easier from a fly fishing point of view. We headed out to protea reef and started fishing. At first the fishing was a bit slow due to the strong current and after a while we noticed a lot of showings of yellow fin tuna and bonnies feeding of the top. Minutes later I hooked into an awesome yellow fin that gave me a fight of a lifetime and failed to land it due to the taxman. As the day progressed we landed 12 yellow fin tuna and 7 bonnies all in the range of 4-10 KG’s. the last cast for the day awarded me with a beautiful green job fish of 11.3 KG’s. the tackle used was an 12wt rod and reel with 600gram sinking and floating line. This was a awesome fly fishing trip and one that I will definitely be back for later in the year.
